Hello holiday-loving parents!

Travelling with children during the Christmas season is an adventure. And in Copenhagen, you’ll find a lot of activities that will bring the Christmas spirit to its peak!

At Easygoing, we love seeing families enjoy Copenhagen, and we have gathered our top 5 best and most child-friendly Christmas experiences in the capital.

Regardless of whether you need a great stroller for a trip to the Christmas market or a safe car seat for excursions, we have taken care of the practicalities. Now you can focus on the fun!

Here is your Easygoing guide to Christmas in Copenhagen:

1. Christmas in Tivoli

There is no Christmas in Copenhagen without a trip to Tivoli! The old garden transforms into a true fairytale land with thousands of sparkling lights, Christmas shops, and the scent of roasted almonds.

There is something here for all ages, and the park is especially cozy when darkness falls and the lights are switched on.

Meet Santa Claus in his cozy house on the Lawn (Plænen), feel the wind in your hair on the roller coaster, and eat candied apples while you enjoy the atmosphere in the old park.

See the Christmas program here.

2. The Ice Rinks

Lace up your skates and feel the cold on your cheeks! Ice rinks have popped up in several places in the city, inviting the whole family to a fun break.

The rink at Kongens Nytorv is a hit! It’s a perfect activity for all ages, and you don't need to bring your own skates from home; they can be rented in all sizes at the ice rink.

Remember hats, mittens, and warm socks! Read about the ice rink here.

3. Nyhavn Christmas Market

The colorful, historic houses form the most beautiful backdrop for the Nyhavn Christmas Market.

Here you can stroll along the canal, see the beautifully decorated wooden ships, and buy Christmas decorations and delicacies. You might even be lucky enough to meet the Nyhavn elves who sing and hand out treats.

Christmas markets are a solid tradition during the holiday season, and there are countless beautiful markets, so if you are not near Nyhavn, you can find an overview of the markets here.

4. Christmas at the ZOO

Even though it’s winter, Copenhagen Zoo is a magical place during Christmas time. It is decorated for Christmas, the animals have grown their winter coats, and there are often special festive activities for children – e.g., making straw animals or greeting elves.

Even in poor weather, Copenhagen Zoo has plenty of exciting activities, and you can find their program here.

5. Christmas Cheer on Strøget

Strøget (the pedestrian street in the inner city) is a sight to behold in December.

The shops are beautifully decorated. Even if you aren't planning to shop, a stroll through the decorated street is a Christmas experience.

Magasin du Nord and Illum always have the most spectacular Christmas window displays, which are almost works of art for the little ones. In the LEGO Store, there are often Christmas activities or impressive Christmas builds, and at the end of Strøget, you will find the masterpiece: The Christmas decorations on the Hotel D’Angleterre.

We hope this guide makes your trip to Copenhagen easy, cozy, and full of Christmas magic!

Happy Christmas Holidays!

Best Christmas wishes,

Team Easygoing
